Fatal Shootout in North Las Vegas Claims Lives of Police Officer and Suspect
A tragic incident unfolded in North Las Vegas on Sunday, resulting in the loss of lives of both a police officer and the suspect involved. The Clark County Coroner has confirmed the identity of the suspect as 25-year-old Alexander Andre Mathis.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 2:13 p.m. when officers responded to the area of Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road. Upon arrival, they attempted to engage with Mathis, who was armed and disregarded their commands before fleeing the scene.

Mathis was later located, still armed, and failed to comply with orders to display his hands. He advanced towards the officers, prompting them to discharge their weapons. During the exchange of gunfire, Officer Jason Roscow was struck multiple times but managed to return fire, injuring Mathis.
Tragically, both Officer Roscow and Mathis succumbed to their injuries after being transported to University Medical Center (UMC). This incident marks the first reported death of a police officer in North Las Vegas since 2017 and the first fatal shooting of an officer since 1995. An
investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is currently underway.
