The U.S. Air Force has released the identity of the airman who was fatally shot in an early Saturday morning incident near Truman Gate at Kirtland Air Force Base.
The deceased has been identified as Airman Basic Brion Teel-Scott, 27, of Bordentown, N.J., who was assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron. Officials say Teel-Scott was killed on February 22, 2025, following an altercation in which he allegedly attempted to flee during an attempted detention.

A second airman was also injured in the incident, suffering a gunshot wound to the hand.
According to military officials, the incident unfolded at approximately 2 a.m., when base security personnel responded to a situation near the Truman Gate entrance. The encounter escalated into a pursuit off-base, during which shots were fired, resulting in Teel-Scott’s fatal injuries.
Col. Michael Power, commander of the 377th Air Base Wing and Installation, issued an official statement expressing his condolences for the tragic loss.
“Losing a member of your team is never easy, but the circumstances of this incident make it that much harder,” Col. Power stated. “Additionally, we are ensuring our injured defender, the Wingmen of both members, and our base community receive the best possible care and support.”
Military authorities, along with local law enforcement, are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full details of the incident. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
