Arkansas High School Student Dies from Flu Complications
LITTLE ROCK, AR – A junior at Sylvan Hills High School in Arkansas has succumbed to complications from the flu, according to the Pulaski County Special School District.
Ca’myiah Simmons passed away on January 31, with school officials confirming that the flu was the cause of death.
School Mourns Loss
Sylvan Hills High School expressed its condolences, stating, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that one of our Bears passed away.”
Funeral services for Simmons will be held on February 15 at the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
Nationwide Flu Outbreak
The flu season has been particularly intense this year, with the Associated Press reporting it as the most severe in at least 15 years. The outbreak has led to school closures in some states, with 43 states reporting high or very high flu activity in the last week. The South, Southwest, and Western states have been hit the hardest.
