Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Ector County Leaves One Dead, One Critically Injured
A multi-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning in Ector County resulted in the death of one man and left another individual critically injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The crash occurred around 6:20 a.m. on February 4 at the intersection of West University and Mercedes Avenue. Authorities reported that 22-year-old Roberto Hernandez of Weslaco was driving a GMC Sierra eastbound on University while towing another vehicle. At the same time, a Toyota Rav4, driven by 60-year-old Gregory Wayne Gardner of Odessa, and a BMW, operated by 30-year-old Laura Ivonne Galindo of Midland, were traveling westbound.

Investigations revealed that Hernandez lost control of his vehicle, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with Galindo’s BMW. The towed vehicle then struck Gardner’s Toyota Rav4. Gardner, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Galindo sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Odessa Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Hernandez’s condition and whether he sustained injuries have not been disclosed.
The DPS is continuing its investigation into the crash and has yet to determine the cause of Hernandez’s deviation into oncoming traffic. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
