Fatal Crash in Springfield Claims Life of Delaware, Ohio Resident
A tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning in Springfield, resulting in the death of 63-year-old Michael Allen Ellis from Delaware, Ohio.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on State Route 54, just north of Interstate 70. Ellis’s vehicle collided with a tree after he lost control while driving southbound on State Route 54. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Ellis was not wearing a seatbelt at
the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) led the investigation, with assistance from Harmony Township EMS, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clark County Dog Warden. A dog was found inside the crashed vehicle and exhibited aggressive behavior toward emergency personnel. The Clark County Dog Warden took the animal into custody. The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation and clearing of the scene.
Authorities emphasize the importance of seatbelt use, which significantly reduces the risk of death or serious injury in crashes. The incident highlights the dangers of losing control on rural roads, particularly during early morning hours. Distraction while driving remains a leading cause of traffic accidents nationwide.
The OSP continues to investigate the crash, with toxicology tests pending. The community is encouraged to come forward with any information about the crash. Ellis’s family and friends are in the thoughts of the community during this difficult time.
