No Charges Filed Against Michigan State Police Troopers Involved in Fatal Shooting
A review by the Department of Attorney General has concluded that Michigan State Police troopers acted in self-defense and defense of others when they fatally shot 17-year-old Rayvon Shahid in Flint on November 2, 2024. As a result, no charges will be filed against the troopers involved.
According to the AG’s department, the troopers were patrolling near Essex Street and Pasadena Avenue when they confronted Shahid, who was armed and ran from the scene. The troopers chased after Shahid, instructing him to “drop the gun” 10 times during the 25-second pursuit. When Shahid
approached Pasadena Avenue, where bystanders were present, the troopers fired their service pistols, fatally wounding him.

The AG’s department reviewed Michigan State Police reports, video footage, and signed statements from the troopers involved. They concluded that the troopers’ initial stop was proper and legal, and that using deadly force was justified due to the threat posed by Shahid.
The incident has been deemed a tragic loss of life, with the Department of Attorney General expressing sympathies to Shahid’s family and friends.
