Petersburg Double Shooting Victim Identified as 40-Year-Old Richard Withers
Petersburg, IL – The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, has confirmed the identity of the victim in a double shooting in rural Petersburg as 40-year-old Richard Withers.
Withers was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital on February 1 after suffering a gunshot wound at his residence in the 15000 block of Tice Road in Menard County. He was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m. on February 2.

An autopsy is scheduled, and the case is currently under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police. Deputies initially found two individuals with gunshot wounds at the scene, both of whom were taken to local hospitals in critical condition.
The status of the second victim has not been confirmed by authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and WAND News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
